Towards Highbury Corner: sexing up the job search
Highgate N6 5PRby Blanche Micah
"What have you been doing to find work?", asked the job coach. The man folded his newspaper and placed it in his pocket. He yelled, "Unless I get the money to get a card to enter a building site, I will be out of work. I will be out of here tomorrow if I got the card. I have loads of agencies texting me about work, I could start work tomorrow, he repeated, if I got the card". The nervous looking job coach said, "You keep saying that every time I ask you about finding work, if you"¦. The man interrupted, pointing his finger to the coloured monitor of his mobile phone, "I have loads of agencies texting me but I need the card". "If you do not have a card, then you need to be looking for other type of work, say, retail work, stated the job coach. The man shouted, "I am not doing any thing else, my work is building work, right. I was expelled from school since I was twelve and building work is all I want to do. The stress from the man's voice violently diffused across the whole room.
